Coming into the last round of the World Famous UKTruggyPro there was still alot to play for. The main championship was between HP's Bruce Thompson and SMD's Stan Gill. Stan needed to win and for Bruce to have a bad weekend. It was a a stretch but its the stretch that makes Champions!

Arriving at Coventry there had been light rainfail and this with the outstanding track preperation work that CMCC had done the track was looking absolutely perfect. Not too damp and not dusty, lots of grip.

The first round had a number of the local CMCC members and immediately Peter Wrigglesworth put in an eight lap time, to do well at Coventry you need a laptime around 39 seconds. Peter was great but youngster Leon Goode was quicker by 20 seconds. Again local racer Michael Shorey put in 8 laps in the second heat.

Coming into the third heat all eyes were on Stan and Bruce. Stan was doing well but made a mistake in his run, Bruce though drove like a machine and whilst we didn't know at the time - set the measure for the rest of the day.
Scott Walker who was in the running against Jason Cook for the clubman's also put in a great first round qualifying performance joining the 8 lapper club.

Bruce had full on concentration throughout the day.

Into the second set of heats and it was much of a replay but Stan dropped further back. Bruce took TQ and had the vital extra point. Stan needed to win the race by a significant margin - it looked tough.

Stan wore his lucky hat!

The third set of heats set the margin for the rest of the runners, Jimmy "you're finished" Tatlow, Marky Hamlin, Joe Joyce, Michael Lee, Wayne Bramley and Jack Keatley all made the 8 lap grade. Tony Scott also made an 8 lap run which shocked everyone at teh track and apparently the Pope too.

Bruce took a clean sweep of qualifying rounds and was on target to win the championship.

Into the finals and the D final was won by Coventry local Mark Ashford, the C was won by Jack Keatley, the B final was won by Leon Goode.

The A final kicked off and Bruce got a great start of the line, Scott Walker the only Tamiya runner of the season also had a good start and it was pretty much Bruce and Scott all the way through. Joe Joyce over took Stan but Stan pulled back third place and also overtook Scott in the middle stages of the race. Leon Goode also challenged for third and second place during the second set of pitstops in this thirty minute race. By this time Bruce had lapped the field and it looked like he had the race in the bag.

Stan pushed and for alot of the race both Scott and Stan were seperated by less than 2 seconds. This allowed Bruce to push on and by the end of the race Bruce had lapped the field twice. Scott came in second and Stan third with an impressive Michael Lee coming in fourth. Michael was the best played Junior running in the whole championship.
